A group of fishermen fishing off Franklin Point near Santa Cruz, California became aware that a great white was in the area when their boat was bumped.
The group was fishing for lingcod when they were visited by the 12 to 14 foot great white shark last week.
What makes this video really stand out is the sheer enthusiasm and excitement from the guy shooting the footage, who we believe is the same guy who posted the video Matt Mitchell. The video starts out by Matt proclaiming, "we got the footage of a whitey...we finally got it!" and then he bursts out laughing. From there, he continually scurries about the boat capturing more images of the shark as it moves around the boat.
His two shipmates aren't nearly as vocally enthused by the encounter and it's clear that one of them is actually concerned about the actions of Matt. At one point, you hear him caution Matt that the shark is very close and tells him to get his hands out the water. As Matt continues to move around the boat capturing various shots of the shark, we hear one guy announce, "don't be tipping (or shifting) the boat." To which Matt replies, "so epic" as he positions himself to grab another shot. It was clear that Matt's elation was not going to be muted.
Thanks Matt for sharing the footage and for putting a smile on our faces. Your complete enthusiasm regarding your GW encounter was quite infectious.
Video posted by Matt Mitchell and is 2 minutes in length.
