California kayak anglers rescued after attack by great white shark
According to KEYT News, a group of kayak anglers where fishing on Friday afternoon when their kayak was struck by a great white shark. The group put out a radio distress call and a nearby sport fishing boat, operated by Lou and Charles Christman, responded to the scene. When the two rescuers arrived on scene, they found one kayaker clinging to his damaged kayak.  They pulled him and two other anglers into the boat along with their kayaks and safely took them to shore.

The odd part of the story is that apparently, several of their friends decided to stay behind and continue fishing.  An hour later, they too put out a distress call after one of the kayakers got hit hard by a great white shark knocking him several feet into the air.  When the Christman brothers responded to this group, they found one of the kayaks sinking due to numerous puncture wounds. They again got the anglers safely on board and took them to shore.

According to Charles Christman who viewed the large radius bite marks, he estimated the size of the shark to be between 16 to 18 feet in length.

The day prior on 3 October 2014, a 28-year-old was surfing a mile north of Wall Beach at the coastal section of Vandenberg Air Force Base when he was bitten in the knee by a shark. Witnesses to the incident state the shark was between 10 to 12 feet in length.  The victim, a civilian employee at the base, was taken to the hospital but his condition has yet to be released.

Last month a pair of kayakers in Massachusetts had a close call when they attempted to observe great whites who were in the area hunting seals.  View that story here.
