Video: Oceanic Whitetip Shark Sneaks Up on Diver

Oceanic whitetip shark in Red Sea
One of the rules in diving is to always be aware of your surroundings. This is not always easy as divers often get caught up in the beauty of their underwater surroundings.

Of course it even becomes more difficult to maintain your awareness when some stealthy fish sneaks up on your six (backside) in which you will most likely not know it is there until it decides to make its presence known or your dive buddy gets your attention.

In the case of this video, a group of divers are enjoying themselves on Elphinstone Reef in the Red Sea when a whitetip slips into stealth mode.

The person shooting the video spots an oceanic whitetip shark and follows them with the camera lens.  As the camera pans, we see the shark approaching the rear of a diver, Karolina, who is obviously unaware that the shark is closing in on her.  As Karolina is slowly kicking with both legs, the shark seems slide right in before she unintentionally gives the shark a kick with her fin causing the shark to swim off.

From looking at the video, it doesn't appear Karolina ever knew the shark was even there.  If she is some
one that is scared of sharks...then that's probably a good thing.

Video posted by Mike Verbeeck and is 1:03 in length.  Shark sneaks up on the diver starting at the 10 second mark.
