|Great white at Guadalupe Island - by meekmann|
Guadalupe Island is one of the world's top destinations for great white shark encounters. The small volcanic island is located in the Pacific Ocean 150 miles (240 kilometers) off the west coast of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. The island is known for having wonderful visibility often providing divers with 125 – 150 foot vis in clear blue waters.
The island is home to large colonies of pinipeds which includes elephant seals, Guadalupe fur seals, and California sea lions. The large colonies of pinipeds help attract large great whites looking for a readily available dinner buffet.
This fantastic 3+ minute video was posted by meekmann. The entire video is well worth watching but the most exciting part takes place at the 1:30 mark (photo above) when the video is slowed down to help show this massive whitey in action.
